Brighton Palace Pier, a Grade II* listed landmark, has been a cornerstone of British seaside culture since it officially opened on 20 May 1899. Originally known as the Brighton Marine Palace and Pier, it was designed by R. St George Moore to serve as a "pleasure emporium" replacing the earlier Royal Suspension Chain Pier.
